Family Self-Sufficiency is a program of the Sioux Falls Housing and Redevelopment Commission that gives a helping hand to assist highly motivated individuals and families with becoming economically self-sufficient. We will assist with removing barriers which stand in the way of economic self-sufficiency.

You must be:

Income eligible, On the Voucher or Public Housing program of Sioux Falls Housing, On the waiting list for Family Self-Sufficiency, and willing to enroll in school, training and/or seek employment.

Family Self-Sufficiency assists with :

Tuition, cost of required books, job training, chidcare costs for daycare while attending training/college, Drop-In Evening Childcare (free), computer lab use, required uniforms & interview outfits, transportation stipend for job training/education or job hunting, basic computer skills, basic skills upgrading, career counseling and job referrals, cost of individual or family counseling/therapy and outpatient treatment.

If you are selected for Family Self-Sufficiency you will have many opportunites:

Workshops and speakers on interviewing, employment, building confidence, relationships, parenting, homeownership, and many more

Fun Family Events to attend

A weekly support group for interested participants

Usage of the free evening childcare program

Moral support

We will also help you with:

Increase earning potential

Reduce dependency on welfare

Build an "escrow savings account"

Overcome barriers

Meet pople who understand

Build your self-esteem

Make positive choices

Find resources/agency referrals

Work toward financial security and homeownership
